Frame Smith & Co was founded in August 1999 after we recognised that there was a need for a specialist practice dealing in serious criminal allegations as well as general criminal, road traffic and benefit fraud. Our People

David Smith and Anthony Egan are the partners of the firm. Nick Brown, Ian Savill, Mark Williams, Stephen Hudson and Leila Ali are our Assistant and Consultant Solicitors. We also have extensive contacts with a number of leading Barristers and QCs who specialise in all aspects of Crown Court cases particularly murder, GBH, fraud, internet offences, sexual offences, SOPOs and Proceeds of Crime Act investigations (POCA).

As a result our relationships with numerous expert witnesses, built up after many years of practice, we have a pool of resources to tap into including instructing pathologists to undertake an autopsy, forensic accountants to assist in investigating fraud cases and A and E Consultants to consider medical evidence in murder and serious assaults, as well as DNA experts and IT specialists to investigate the ever increasing amount of cases based on forensic evidence.
David Smith, Anthony Egan and Nick Brown also hold the Higher Court Advocates qualification to represent you in the Crown Court or we can instruct any barrister available.
David Smith
David SmithPartner
David qualified as a Solicitor in 1997 and formed Frame Smith & Co in 1999, having previously trained and worked for a large criminal law practice in Hampshire. He has worked exclusively as a solicitor specialising in criminal law and road traffic law since he qualified. David is also a Higher Courts Advocate for criminal cases giving him rights of audience in the Crown Court.

He has advised and represented an extensive range of clients from all walks of life and dealt with a variety of offences from road traffic to murder. In addition, he has lectured in criminal law to both ILEX students and local court personnel and has represented local solicitors’ interests at a national level on various committees.

Anthony Egan
Anthony EganPartner
Anthony has 20 years of experience working as a solicitor. He has deep experience of represented clients in the Magistrates and Crown Courts and has a well-deserved reputation as a strong and tenacious advocate in both.

Anthony has significant expertise and experience of dealing with cases alleging serious financial crime or sexual misconduct. He takes pride in his thorough and dedicated approach to all the cases that he deals with. His aim is always to obtain the best possible outcome for his client. He has a well-established reputation amongst his peers and puts energy into any new challenges he or his clients face.

Anthony attained the Rights of Audience qualification allowing him to appear as an advocate in the Crown Court and has also appeared before the Court of Appeal in a successful appeal against an excessive sentence passed by the Crown Court. He was part of the team which took one of the leading cases on confiscation orders, R v Varma all the way to the Supreme Court.

Nick Brown

Qualified in 2001, Nick is a specialist in criminal and road traffic law and he appears on a daily basis in Magistrates courts dealing with everything from straightforward guilty pleas through to complex trials. Nick is also a Higher Courts Advocate for criminal cases giving him rights of audience in the Crown Court.

Steven Hudson

Steve is a very experienced Solicitor who works as a Consultant for us, attending Police Stations and Court hearings throughout the local area. He has specialised in criminal law since he qualified as a Solicitor on 1 December 2004 and is probably one of the most experienced Solicitors in the area in dealing with advising suspects at the police station. Client care and attention to detail are his real strengths.

Leila Ali

Leila qualified in 2009 and is a part-time solicitor consultant with the firm with a particular interest in dealing with young offenders.

Mark Williams

Mark is a very experienced Solicitor , having previous run his own practice. He works as a Consultant for us. He was admitted as a Solicitor on 1 July 1992 and has specialised in criminal law since that date. He is very well known for his willingness to go the extra mile for clients as his client care is his primary strength and has resulted in him achieving a very loyal own client following where he is often asked for specifically by clients he has previously dealt with.

Lee Wainscoat

Lee is our freelance accredited police station advisor. After 16 years in the police force Lee’s knowledge of police station practice and procedure is now a valuable asset to the defence in advising suspects at the police station.

Lee has substantial experience in dealing with serious crimes and complex fraud investigations and a particular skill in dealing with vulnerable and young detained persons.
